Kuwait records 3,075 COVID-19 cases, 20 deaths

KUWAIT CITY, April 26 (Xinhua) -- Kuwait on Sunday reported 183 new cases of COVID-19 and one more death, bringing the total infections to 3,075 and death toll to 20, the Health Ministry said in a statement.

Among the new cases were 19 Kuwaiti citizens who returned from Britain, France and Belgium, and one Indian resident who returned from France, the statement said, adding that 149 new cases were contacts with infected patients.

The cause of the infection for the other 14 is still under investigation, it noted.

The new death cases was a 57-year-old Iranian resident, it added.

Currently, 2,249 patients are receiving treatment, including 61 in ICU, according to the statement.

Meanwhile, Kuwaiti Minister of Health Bassel Al-Sabah announced the recovery of 150 from the coronavirus, raising the total number of recoveries in the country to 806.

On April 4, Kuwait reported the first death case of COVID-19.

The Kuwaiti government has imposed a nationwide curfew to contain the spread of the coronavirus.

On March 13, Kuwait suspended all commercial flights. The government also closed stores, malls and barbershops in an effort to curb the virus' spread.
