The first Middle East Security Forum, entitled Security in the Middle East under the New Situation: Challenges and Prospects, closed in Beijing on November 28. More than 200 Middle East and extraterritorial countries, diplomats and security officials, scholars, representatives of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of National Defense, some former Chinese diplomatic envoys, think tank experts and scholars participated in the conference. Attendees had extensive exchanges around the conference theme and reached positive and effective results and broad consensus. During the forum, several experts were interviewed by CGTN reporters.
Fadi Isbel, senior researcher at the State Documents research organization in Syria, believes that China’s proposed solution to security issues in the Middle East is comprehensive and effective. Moreover, China emphasizes that only by upholding fairness and justice can we achieve security in the Middle East, and the foundation of achieving fairness and justice is restoring the legitimate rights of the Palestinian and Syrian people.
According to Hazi Bin Ahmed, director of the Tunisian Mediterranean Development and Innovation Center, Tunisian people generally believe that Tunisian companies do not have the ability to compete with European companies. However, China's Belt and Road Initiative is an effective way to make up for the shortcomings of Tunisian enterprises and improve production and competitiveness. He also believes that the “Belt and Road” Initiative, China ’s investment in infrastructure and cooperation between Chinese and Tunisian enterprises will give Tunisian enterprises great development momentum and confidence, and will play an important role in opening up the European market in the future.
Professor Wang Guangda, Executive Director of CARC, believes that reform and development are of great significance to the institutional construction of the Middle East. China insists on maintaining the stability and peace of Arab countries within the framework of the United Nations, but will never interfere in the internal affairs of any country.
