On the morning of September 13, CARC welcomed the Algerian media delegation at the International Education Center of Songjiang Campus of SISU. The delegation was led by Professor Semel Debech, President of the Algerian-Chinese Friendship Association. 14 representatives from 12 mainstream Algerian media exchanged views with experts, scholars and Arabic-speaking students.
The delegation first visited the photo exhibition of the Center to learn more about the development path of the center and the construction of the “four major platforms”. The media representatives expressed their appreciation and gratitude for the efforts made by the Center for China-Arab friendly exchanges. It is hoped that the Center will continue to play its role as an ideological platform and contribute to the promotion of China-Arab friendship and cooperation.
During the discussion and exchange session, Professor Wang Guangda, Secretary-General and Executive Director of the Central Council first introduced the achievements, experience and prospects for the future of China's economic development in the 70 years since the founding of the People's Republic of China, focusing on the rapid development of China's economy into high-quality development. China is implementing the new development concept of innovation, coordination, green, openness and sharing, striving to achieve the goal of two hundred years, and the new opportunities brought by “Belt and Road initiative to the development of countries along the route and the impact of Sino-US trade friction on China-Arab cooperation. Associate Professor Chen Yueyang reviewed the friendly relations between China and Algeria, focusing on the cooperation between China and Algeria in the field of infrastructure construction. Professor Ibtisham, Center Visiting Scholar and Director of the Center for International Strategic Studies at the University of Baghdad in Iraq, introduced the development of the “Belt and Road ”Initiative and the China-Arab Cooperation Forum from the perspective of Arab scholars.
Later, the Algerian representatives enthusiastically asked questions and expressed their views on their respective concerns. They are eager to see more exchanges and cooperation between China and Arab countries in the fields of culture, education, academics and media. Professor Semel hoped to strengthen academic exchanges with the center and jointly hold a seminar on China-Algeria relations.
Ms. Amina, President of People’s Daily, hoped to have more opportunities to learn more about China’s development experience and learn from China how to formulate medium and long-term development plans. A national TV reporter, Karim, was optimistic about Sino-US trade frictions and believed that China and the United States have reached a final agreement after the consultation. Ms. Sefta, editor-in-chief of the Maghreb newspaper, hoped that China will set up a Chinese cultural center in Algeria to carry out Chinese language teaching.
In addition, the center also organized members of the delegation to experience the traditional Chinese calligraphy culture, and appreciated the Arabic-language performance Life brought by the students of the Arabic-language department Wang Zhiming and Cheng Tingyu. The interactive atmosphere between the two sides is lively and friendly, and media friends have expressed their love and enthusiasm for Chinese culture.
China’s friendly relations with Algeria have a long history. In 1971, Algeria played an irreplaceable positive role in restoring China's legal rights and permanent seats on the UN Security Council. It was also the first Arab country to establish a comprehensive strategic partnership with China. In the new era, the media played an important role in bridging the story of China and Algeria and promoting the commonweal of the people. The event further promoted media exchanges between the two countries and made positive contributions to promoting cultural exchanges between China and Algeria.
