On February 21, 2019, Professor Hisham Gulvey, consultant of the Foreign Affairs College of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, visited the China-Arab Research Center on Reform and Development (CARC). The friendly talks were held at the International Conference Center of Shanghai International Studies University Hongkou Campus. The meeting was attended by Professor Zhu Weilie, Director of the CARC Expert Committee; Professor Wang Guangda, Secretary-General of CARC, and Associate Professor Chen Yueyang. The talks were presided over by Professor Wang Guangda.
At the meeting, the two sides carried out pragmatic issues on the Background of the Crisis of the Gulf break-off , Relationship Between the GCC Countries Since the Crisis Broke Out, Impact of the Crisis on the Bilateral Relations between China and Qatar and “China Sea Free Trade Zone Negotiation Prospects”, and had deep academic exchanges . Professor Hisham Gulvey believed that the crisis of disconnection will continue, the Arab world is in a transitional period. Chinese experts said that China paid close attention to the development of the crisis. The GCC countries are China’s main trading partner in the Middle East along the “Belt and Road” initiative. Hoping that the two sides will resolve the crisis through dialogue as soon as possible and benefit the people of the Gulf.
Professor Hisham Gulvey is a Tunisian French nationality scholar and a consultant at the Qatar Diplomatic Academy. His main research interests are relations between the Gulf countries and the United States, relations between the Gulf countries and European countries, in recent years, he has paid more attention to the relationship between Gulf countries and China. He expressed his welcome to SISU and CARC to materialize in-depth cooperation in the fields of training, academic research and other fields with Qatar Diplomatic Academy.
