On October 25, Shen Guofang, former assistant minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and executive director of the China Foundation for International Studies, was invited to attend the signing ceremony of Shanghai International Studies University and China International Studies Foundation. President Li Yansong and Ambassador Shen Guofang signed a strategic cooperation agreement on behalf of Shanghai International Studies University and China International Studies Foundation.
The two sides will support each other in common interest based on the principle of complementing each other, strengthening mutual assistance, sharing resources, enhancing mutual trust, synergistic innovation, and promoting reciprocity. The cooperation fields aim at establishing mutual trust and cooperation, actively exerting respective advantages, making full use of domestic and foreign human resources and network resources, promoting the sharing of high-quality resources, achieving mutual benefit, and deepening continuously substantive cooperation, exploring new modes of cooperation between subordinate universities and state-level core think tanks, and jointly building an innovative system combining first-class foreign language and literature studies with high-end think tank research to enhance their domestic and international influence.
After the signing ceremony, Shen Guofang made a keynote speech entitled Sino-US Relations under the International Big Pattern for the teachers and students of SISU, and clarified the key position of Sino-US relations in the international situation. China and US should look for a new path in the world's peaceful development and the general trend of economic cooperation. Shen Guofang believed that the study of Sino-US relations should be based on the international pattern. In recent years, the US financial crisis and the European debt crisis have occurred successively, and China's comprehensive national strength has been rising, becoming the world's second largest economy, the international pattern has undergone major changes. The structural contradiction between China and the United States is difficult to eliminate in a short period, the contradiction is inevitable.
Before the start of the lecture, President Li Yansong introduced the historical evolution of SISU, the running school ideas and the cultivation of talents to Ambassador Shen Guofang. Shen Guofang exchanged views on foreign language teaching, Sino-US relations, and country area study with teachers of SISU. Liao Wenqi, Secretary of the SISU Youth League Committee; Professor Wang Guangda, Executive Director of the CARC; Professor Liu Hongsong, Associate Dean of the Institute of International Relations and Public Affairs; Professor Mao Wenwei, Deputy Director of the Research Department, and some relevant SISU staffs attended the signing ceremony and exchanged actively ideas.
