Qatar Ambassador to China Visited Shanghai International Studies University

     From May 7 to 8, 2018, H.E. Sultan Mansuri, Qatar Ambassador to China, visited Shanghai International Studies University(SISU). On the morning of May 7, President Li Yansong met with Ambassador Mansuri in the VIP room of the International Conference Center of Hongkou Campus. President Li Yansong introduced to Ambassador Mansuri the school-running characteristics of SISU and the achievements in recent years. He hoped to strengthen cooperation and exchanges with the University of Qatar, the Qatar Foundation and other Qatar universities and think tank organizations. The guests and the host also exchanged views deeply on other issues of cooperation between the two universities.





       On the afternoon of May 7, Ambassador Mansuri came to the Songjiang Campus. Vice President Zhou Cheng hosted the ambassador and his entourage at CARC. Zhou Cheng introduced the background and development of the center  to the guests. Over more than a year, the center has held four seminars for Arab officials and received more than 100 participants. Mansuri said that he was very happy to see that the center has accepted Qatari officials twice in more than a year to participate in the training. The construction of the center is very important for promoting Sino-Arab relations and China-Qatar relations. The ambassador hoped to set up a CARC branch institute in Qatar. 




      At the Middle East Institute, Deputy Director Sun Degang and other experts, exchanged views with the ambassador on the crisis of the Gulf, the relationship between China and Qatar, the “Belt and Road” initiative and the transformation of the international energy system.


     During visiting the School of Oriental Languages, Dean Cheng Tong and Ambassador Mansuri exchanged views on strengthening the construction of Arabic majors. In the East Hall of Library, Ambassador Mansuri made a wonderful speech to the teachers and students of the Arabic language department and answered questions to the students. He also enjoyed Arabic poetry readings and Arabic dance performances presented by Arab students.


       Jafar Carral, political adviser to the Qatar Embassy in China,  accompanied the ambassador. Zhu Weilie, Honorary Director of the Institute of Middle East Studies; Wang Youyong, Director of the Research Department; Wang Guangda, Deputy Director of the CARC; Chen Jie, Deputy Dean of the School of Oriental Languages, and Wang Zheng, Deputy Director of the Office of Foreign Cooperation and Exchange, attended some of the meetings and discussions.
