DAMASCUS, Jan. 31 (Xinhua) -- The visiting Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Hamad al-Busaidi on Monday underscored the importance of Arab cooperation on his official visit to Syria.

In a press briefing following a meeting with his Syrian counterpart Faisal Mekdad, Sayyid Badr said that there is an ongoing Arab effort for a reunited Arab stance in order to reach a promising future in the region.

There are good efforts exerted by many countries nowadays for the (Arab) reunion, clearing the air, correcting the past mistakes, and have a future vision for the Arab cooperation and solidarity and to overcome the past with the promising future and optimism, he said.

For his side, Mekdad said that the Omani minister discussed with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad the cases that he found important for Arab cooperation and solidarity.

We are optimistic about the present and future of our nation and are confident that Syria is in the heart of Arab cooperation, Mekdad told reporters.

Omani and Syrian officials have paid each other several visits during the Syrian crisis.

The visit of the Omani foreign minister to Syria comes at a time when several Arab countries, such as the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Jordan, have largely normalized their relations with Damascus amid a sentiment that Syria will soon be having back its seat in the Arab League.
